# SetKernel — print + offline networking kit

Print and hand-out artwork for in-person / offline networking.
Built on the existing brand system (mark geometry, hex tokens, and type are
reused from `public/brand/*.svg`, `docs/design-spec.md`, and
`src/styles/global.css`).

This folder holds the **business cards** and the **one-pager leave-behind**. The
matching **email signature** (HTML + plain text) lives one level up at
`public/brand/email-signature.html` / `.txt` — documented at the end of this file.

## Files

| File | What it is |
| ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `business-card-front.svg` | **Front (recommended).** Cream paper. Centred `</>` mark + `SetKernel` / `DIGITAL INC.` wordmark + the brand headline _Technology, built properly._ (the homepage H1 — the `tagline` field in `site.ts` was retired 2026-06-04; this phrase lives on as the headline). Lots of negative space — the brand face. |
| `business-card-back.svg` | **Back (recommended).** Ink ground. Lockup (cream chevrons, burgundy slash), burgundy hairline, name in display serif, mono title/contact, quiet serif-italic _Your engineering team._ This is where the contact details live. |
| `business-card-front-alt.svg` | **Optional alternate front.** Same composition as the front, but on an **ink** ground. Use it if you want an all-dark card (ink front + ink back). Pick one front — don't print both. |
| `one-pager.svg` | **One-pager leave-behind.** US Letter, single-sided, cream ground with one full-bleed ink band. Header lockup + _Technology, built properly._, the partner message, the Build / Run / Advance row on the ink band, a "how we work" line, an honest proof line, and a contact footer. The sheet to hand someone after a conversation. |

**Recommended pairing:** cream `front` + ink `back`. The light face / dark detail
gives the card a two-sided editorial rhythm, and the burgundy slash reads with
more authority on the ink back. If you prefer a single dark card, pair
`front-alt` with `back`.

## Print specifications

| Spec | Value |
| ------------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Trim size | **3.5 in × 2.0 in** (88.9 mm × 50.8 mm) — North American standard |
| Resolution | 300 dpi → trim = 1050 × 600 px |
| Bleed | **1/8 in (3 mm)** on all sides — the background colour extends to the artboard edge |
| Artboard (viewBox) | 1125 × 675 px (trim + bleed) |
| Safe area | ~3 mm inside the trim — all text and the logo sit inside it |

Each SVG documents these numbers in a comment header, including the exact trim,
bleed, and safe-area coordinates.

## Before you send to the printer

### 1. Convert text to outlines (required)

The cards use **Source Serif 4** (serif), **Inter** (sans), and **JetBrains
Mono** (mono). A print shop will **not** have these fonts, so the text would
fall back to the wrong typefaces. Before printing:

1. Open the SVG in **Inkscape** (free) or **Figma** (free tier).
2. Select all text → **Object to Path** (Inkscape) / **Outline / Flatten**
(Figma). This bakes the typefaces into vector paths.
3. Export / hand off as PDF or outlined SVG.

This is the same workflow documented in `docs/design-spec.md` §9 for the logo
exports.

### 2. Colour — RGB → CMYK

The hex values in the files are **RGB** (the brand source of truth is
`src/styles/global.css`). For offset / CMYK printing, the shop must convert and
**proof against the brand swatches**. Two colours are critical to match:

- **Cream paper `#FAF7EE`**
- **Burgundy `#7A1F2A`** — the slash, the one fixed-colour brand element

Everything else is neutral ink (`#0F1419` / muted `#5C5A50` / cream-muted
`#A6A395`). The large ink flood on the back prints best as a rich-black CMYK
build — ask the shop for their recipe.

### 3. Stock

Recommended: **uncoated** stock. The cream front wants a soft, paper-forward,
editorial feel that a coated/glossy finish would fight. Uncoated also suits the
matte ink back.

## Card-back fields (confirmed 2026-06-05)

These are set on `business-card-back.svg` — a company card, no personal name:

| Field | Value | Status |
| ----------- | ---------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Company** | SetKernel Digital Inc. | The card leads with the company, not a person |
| **Line** | YOUR ENGINEERING TEAM | The brand line in place of a personal title |
| **Email** | hello@setkernel.com | Public inbox — no personal address |
| **Phone** | _(absent)_ | The brand is deliberately phone-free (`src/config/site.ts`). An **optional** phone line is provided **commented out** in `business-card-back.svg` (search "OPTIONAL PHONE") — un-comment and set a number only if you want it for offline networking. |

**Web** (`setkernel.com`) and **location** (`Halifax, Nova Scotia`) are fixed
brand facts and don't need confirmation.

## One-pager leave-behind — `one-pager.svg`

A single-sided **US Letter** sheet to hand someone after a conversation: the
brand face, what we do, how we work, and where to reach us. Editorial, cream
ground, with one full-bleed ink band carrying the Build / Run / Advance row.

### Print specifications

| Spec | Value |
| ------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Trim size | **8.5 in × 11 in** (215.9 mm × 279.4 mm) — US / North American Letter |
| Resolution | 300 dpi → trim = 2550 × 3300 px |
| Bleed | **1/8 in (3 mm)** on all sides — the cream ground and the ink band extend to the artboard edge |
| Artboard (viewBox) | 2625 × 3375 px (trim + bleed) |
| Safe area | ~0.25 in (6 mm) inside the trim — all text and the logo sit inside it |

The SVG documents these numbers, plus the exact trim/bleed/safe coordinates, in
its comment header.

### Before you send to the printer

1. **Convert text to outlines (required).** Same workflow as the cards: open in
**Inkscape** or **Figma** → select all text → **Object to Path** / **Outline
/ Flatten** → export as PDF or outlined SVG. The shop will not have Source
Serif 4 / Inter / JetBrains Mono installed.
2. **Colour — RGB → CMYK.** The two critical matches are the cream paper
`#FAF7EE` and the burgundy `#7A1F2A` (slash, accent rules, em-dashes). The
large ink band (`#0F1419`) prints best as a rich-black CMYK build — ask the
shop for their recipe. Proof against the brand swatches.
3. **Stock.** **Uncoated** — the editorial, paper-forward feel matches the cards.

| --------- | ------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Email** | hello@setkernel.com | The public inbox — no personal address. To change it, edit the EMAIL `<text>` in the footer. |

**Web** (`setkernel.com`, plus `setkernel.com/work` and `setkernel.com/contact`)
and **location** (`Halifax, Nova Scotia`) are fixed brand facts. No phone — the
brand is phone-free. The proof line points to real client work and invents no
metrics or quotes.

## Email signature — `../email-signature.html` + `../email-signature.txt`

A robust, table-based company signature to paste into Gmail, Outlook, or
Apple Mail. **Inline styles only** (no `<style>` block, no external CSS), **no
images and no SVG** — the `</>` mark is rendered as styled text (a burgundy
`<span>` for the slash), so it renders identically in every client with zero
image dependency. Web-safe font fallbacks: Inter → Helvetica/Arial, the serif →
Georgia, the mono → Courier.

Lines: **SetKernel Digital Inc.** · hello@setkernel.com · setkernel.com ·
Halifax, Nova Scotia · _Your engineering team._ No personal name, no phone, no
exclamation marks.

### Install (copy the RENDERED signature, not the source)

Open `email-signature.html` in a browser first, then **select the rendered block
with the mouse and copy** — do **not** copy the file's source text.

- **Gmail (web):** Settings (gear) → _See all settings_ → General → Signature →
_Create new_ → paste → **Save changes** at the bottom of the page.
- **Apple Mail (macOS):** Mail → Settings → Signatures → **+** → **untick**
"Always match my default message font" → paste.
- **Outlook (new / web / Microsoft 365):** Settings → Mail → _Compose and reply_
  → Email signature → paste → Save.
- **Outlook (classic desktop):** File → Options → Mail → Signatures → New → paste.

For plain-text mail, use **`email-signature.txt`** verbatim.
